Narrative
A family is invited to spend a whole weekend in a lonely home in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that a dark side lies within the family who invited them.. James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis share which elements of their characters they found the most intriguing and compliment each other while discussing their differing approaches to the craft.. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish Speak No Evil (2022), who had befriended a Dutch couple while on holiday in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were a bit socially awkward, both couples got along very well, and after returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from the Dutch family to come over to the Netherlands. He briefly considered it, but decided that he would feel odd staying with people he didn't really know; his story for the movie came about when he unleashed his darkest fantasies on what could have happened, had he accepted (while maintaining that the original Dutch couple had never given off any bad vibes). In the bathroom, when he's washing his eye, he has a Subconjunctival hemorrhage in his left eye, in his next scene, his eyes are perfectly clear..

No pun intended – if you have seen the European original (that is not even 2 years old), you may understand what I am trying to convey. To watch this, it probably makes sense not to have seen it – one might think! Yet while watching this (and it mainly seems to stick to the blueprint), this movie seems to try to "correct" things that some did not like in the original … the son being one of those things …

illness can be difficult to deal with … your situation makes you lose passion … Not here – and it is elevating the movie.Same is true for James McAvoy … he really is quite the heart of the movie. His performance is subtle and great at the same time. I don't remember every little aspect of the original and I don't want to offend the original players …
for different reasons!
so let's just say he is awesome in this.Acting and script overall work greatly, with some added twists and turns … even if the tweaks at first might not seem that consequential … but in the end (literally) we do get something different … for better or worse! I like it – 1) because it is different from the original and 2) because it is more fitting to the movie and the characters this has to offer! I was skeptical, but this is as good as the original …
